Funtech camp experiance

I enjoyed this course alot and felt that I learned alot of cool new aspects of programming in unreal engine, from scripting to creating awesome new landscapes and simple side scroller games. I really appreciate all the work our teacher put in to help us learn.

Fun and Educational

I thought that this course was very educational and taught me a lot about how to use Unreal Engine. At times the lesson would move a bit slow but then pick up its pace again. Other than that the course was overall fun and enjoyable.

Python coder

Very happy with the camp. We would consider a term-time coding course online.

funtech this week was amazing. I learnt so much more on redstone. awesome course structure and next time include observers. good luck in future!

i cannot think of a title

I liked the course a lot .I learnt a LOT of things including learning how to make our OWN game!

Advanced Python

I found this course challenging. However, it was explained well by the tutor and I usually found it enjoyable. However, at times, it could become a little boring and repetitive. However, I enjoyed a lot and would do it again if I had not done it before.

Fun and interesting

sometimes it gets a bit too long but very interesting and fun. I had a really good time.

I am happy my son Nick enjoyed the half-term virtual camp on Minecraft with mods and this is why he is now enrolled in a term time year long course with FunTech. I am not experienced in Minecraft at all, so it is difficult for me to evaluate how much he learned to be able to do mods himself in Minecraft, but I see that he is not doing it. It might be because he is interested more in playing with friends on servers, a topic which was not in the scope of this virtual camp. Nevertheless he had a positive experience and I am happy to keep enrolling him in different FunTech courses.

Python Game Developer

A bit of a slow start as Jamie had already worked with Python. But after initial 2 sessions he found it really good. Worked well doing half a day over 2 weeks worked well.

I thought it would be boring at the start but paul was really nice and equal to everyone

I think it was really good and i probably will do it again

3D Game Design October Half Term

Made me very interested in 3D game design using Unreal Engine. I really enjoy designing the maps and I found Lewis's help very useful. I will have spent 30 hours on my work. I really enjoyed doing the functions on blueprints.

I really, really enjoyed this course I could not have wished for more. The only thing was that the software took up a lot of storage. But if you were interested and you had a good computer I would highly recommend it.

Excellent Course

I really enjoyed the course and enjoyed making the game, the tutors were really good especially Joe. I would highly recommend the course to people with a basic understanding of code (But you don't need experience with the game engine).

Fun

The whole camp was an amazing experience and I learnt a lot of things and I can confidently say I am better than before. it was very fun and enjoyable with a mix of challenges and games and my favourite part was doing servers together,

Amazing Camp

An amazing summer camp getting the best redstone out of anyone. I highly recommend this camp to anyone reading this. Two weeks ago, i didn't have a clue about redstone and could hardly keep up with the tutorials but now redstone flows though my builds.

I would do it again I learned a lot and it was fun maybe in the future you should do a specific java minecraft hacking course

Very useful

Got my 12 year old daughter enrolled in a 2 week "online camp" for Java coding, after much of deliberation.
Pleased to say - she made the most of it and has found it very useful !
Definitely recommend it !!!

My 11yr old son really enjoyed the Python Coder course. This course was recommended as he had already worked out Minecraft Redstone engineering himself. Before the course he was intrigued but concerned everyone else would know more than him. I explained this to Funtech and they were very approachable and offered a 10 min taster session so he could see how it worked and maybe talk about Minecraft - which he didn't want to do but was happy about the course. There were only 3 on the course.

A few weeks later, my son did the Python Game Developer course. There were 8 on the course, and straight away, my son felt out of his depth and was lost. I think he was too shy to ask for help, When I explained this to Funtech mid course, they offered 1-2-1 consolidation course in the afternoon, but my son was too lost by then and not interested. Funtech kindly offered Java Coder instead, which my son started, felt a lot better about, still needed a consolidation afternoon and chose not to continue the course.

To conclude, I think the course and opportunity is great. Funtech really did everything they could to make sure my son felt some level of success, growing on from his experience of the Python Coder course. It may be some children are overwhelmed or don't feel they can ask for help, and so it was a shame that I wasn't aware of the potential consolidation lessons until it was too late on the Python Game Developer course, especially as another boy had one, a boy who attended the same Python Coder course as my son. In my son's case, I know he would feel shame if he showed he had fallen behind and so was not equipped confidence-wise to ask for help in front of others. Funtech did tell me that not everyone likes the style/format of teaching, hence their offer of the consolidation lessons which really goes a very long way to hopefully provide an element of success int heir learning.

The experience was nice as the teacher was ready to help and everyone was mostly doing the same things.

Funtech Python coder

The majority of the course was good and I learnt a lot from it. However, there were a lot of applications to install and some took a long time to install. I enjoyed creating my own sprites and sounds and the course was easy to follow.

So to begin with, I thought python was... difficult. this course changed my mind hands down. python is actually fun, especially when you make a loop where 160000+ numbers were produced in the console :D. That I think was the most satisfying thing in my life ;-) . So when the course started, I act...

So to begin with, I thought python was... difficult. this course changed my mind hands down. python is actually fun, especially when you make a loop where 160000+ numbers were produced in the console :D. That I think was the most satisfying thing in my life ;-) . So when the course started, I actually expected to go to the actual programming straight away. However it took nearly two hours to do so, and in that time I was watching python videos. At that point I was sceptical, saying that python was boring and then I was told that it takes time to get into the real thing. the other reason I found it boring was actually later, and that was because the sound was too low. I also had to change laptops, because the other one wouldn't launch and I think the reason why I fell behind was mostly because I couldn't hear. But it still took some time to understand that this was a first shot, and things could get better. So over the following days, reviews started to look positive. At this point I still didn't understand that yesterday it took time to get where I was and without it I wouldn't have come to this.
The reason I didn't take a star off this review for this reason is because on the fourth or fifth day I finally realised that on the first day I should have had the thought that you must make the most of it because it will benefit you further in the course. Then when loops started I started laughing about how many numbers I could generate and scroll through. I was thinking if python will crash. It DID. Hahaha. My reviews were really pleasing, and it was mostly about laughing.

However, the not-so-amazing things have to also be pointed out.

- A half star was taken off because the videos were very basic, and I felt that their pace was clear, but slow. This is not a significant downside, and it is minor, but I thought I should point it out.

- Another half star was taken off because although the video explained well, I just felt that it didn't get me thinking enough, and I remember only a couple of programs. Again this is not severe, but I do know that FunTech doesn't have too many options when teaching, but again, it was significant enough to point out.

Overall, apart from a few nitpick things here and there, and also that I knew the first day was boring for a reason, I am really happy with this lesson

I learnt so much

I really enjoyed the course and learnt lots about coding that i didn't know about. I found when I needed help that the tutor went through it thouroghly until I understood it. Overall the course was really fun and I learnt how to code in scratch and even made my first game

Funtech Camp

Today is last day of funtech I was so happy today because w get to do whatever we like and this week we did so many stuff and learned so many stuff.
I WILL REALLY MISS YOU TIARNAN.

i have recommend this too all my friends and they say it looks cool.
the only downside was that i didn't get to do all the options they had and on the last 3 days there was plenty of time and i slowly ran out of ideas.

But did struggle with her slow auditory processing speed and dyslexia on this course as very tutor verbal describe and text type heavy.

Being asked to type certain words in the script or create folders with certain names is also problematic if you don't know how to spell them.

But overall she enjoyed it despite these issues.

the funtech course was really fun even though on a few accasions i struggled with my concentration, in the last two days i was in a 1 to 1 and i got loads done it it really helped me to understand all types oflists and loops.

A fun programming course

A great experience and I would recommend it to other people to try. It was a bit strange on the remote learning though.
