This was my son’s first Funtech course and he thoroughly enjoyed it. He learned a lot about game design and he’s now enrolled on another programming course. Definitely worth it !

Joshua attended the 1-week residential course 'Hackathon - Cyber Security' at Tonbridge School. Joshua enjoyed himself thoroughly, and the course was everything we'd hoped for. The balance of social activities, interaction with other children, and supportive instructors was excellent. A holiday, where academic learning occurred every day, and independence flourished for our child. Plus, top quality accommodation and food. Thank you, FunTech, for investing the effort to get it right.

Lego robotics camp

My son has enjoyed the Lego robotics camp with fun tech, he talks about what he has learned and wanted to book sessions. Staff at Barbican location are very friendly and organised. Thank you so much.

This was our first time at a FunTech residential camp, although my kids have been going to sleep-away camps for years.
Competent, well-trained staff and very nice facility.
For the price I was expecting more: surprised that it wasn’t a full week (5 nights only); no swag (typically a camp will send you home with a t-shirt or water bottle—my son only got a silicone bracelet.
FunTech could have at least included a USB which would have been on-brand instead of have kids bring their own); and the communication wasn’t great—the email published in the brochure was outdated and I called the number and left a message, but no one answered or replied.
Overall it was a good week of coding for my son but operations could be improved, especially given the price tag.

The course has useful content as the kids understand the vulnerability of networks to hacking, learn about the concept of cybersecurity and how to distinguish between different hacking types. The course equips them to an extent with the skills to perform certain tasks related to cybersecurity.
The tutors were knowlegeable and friendly including those part-time tutors who are still undergraduate students.
The facilities were superb, including the single occupancy dormitory and the airconditioned classrooms, and even though the hardware was not always up to the requirements of the course, there were only minor issues and Funtech is committed to source more powerful macines next time.
I could not comment much on the activities offered as my son preferred the option of "sit in the shade" in the afternoon rather than engaging in the field games, but given this year's very hot weather, this was not for the lack of the choice but due to his preference.
Thank you for running this course after Covid delays, my son enjoyed it a lot.

Our 10 year old returned today from the 3D game design residency at Tonbridge School. His experience has been extraordinary. We have never seen him so enthused about the way in which computing can be used. The teachers have managed to combine his innate love of narrative with the complexities of Unreal Engine. He made a game - a real computer game! Remarkable. We were nervous about him going away and not knowing anyone there, but he has forged some great friendships in just a few days. The opportunity to do scuba diving in the evening and play dodge ball were also highlights. All in all, we haven't heard a negative word. And of course, he wants to go back next summer. Thanks so much to everyone at funtech, I am really grateful our child was able to have this experience and would book it again in a heartbeat.

George has had a really great time on his residential trip. He has felt really comfortable with all of the staff and his fellow moders.
He wants to come back next year too.

I loved it!

I loved it here at Funtech, everyday we learned something new and we got to create some kind of project using those codes.
And the tutors, Hafsa and Ben, helped us if we needed help.

This was my son’s first residential camp and after all the lockdowns, it was a huge step for him to go away from home for a week. When I booked him onto the course, it was because he needed help with his Python because he chose Computer Science as a GCSE, however what I hadn’t anticipated was the huge life learning experience and independence gained from doing a residential course. The pastoral team were utterly amazing. They kept the kids busy in the evenings and they had loads of opportunities to mix and let their hair down after learning Python during the day. My son said he feels much more confident in his skills and when I asked him if he would do it again, he said “I think so” this is huge for him because he normally fobs me off with an “I’ll think about it” in the hope I will forget the question! This is the whole package - an absolutely wonderful experience from top to bottom. Thank you!

I attended the Python OOP L2 Camp online, in the five-consecutive-day format. During this online camp, I learned a lot about Python. The content was evenly spread out throughout the past five days. The topics were interesting: as we studied deep subjects like data structures or GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces). The instructor took the time to help each student, and he was very supportive of each of us. The projects were enjoyable, as they were designed to have us take a game back at the end of the day. One negative point though, would be that the program is at times very dense, which means that following it isn't very easy, and the projects are quite hard, especially on the last day.

I really enjoyed this camp and I learned a lot about python. I did not like working with tkinter but that was mainly personal preference. After learning how to use tkinter it was very fun but learning all the fundementals was a bit boring. Anderson was great :D. He really helped me with my code and answered all my questions. On the last day I would have prefered to just focus on doing projects all day instead of doing the "fixit" challenges, they were not as fun.

If I had to change one thing I would decrease the amount of tkinter used but overall I loved it especially with such an amazing tutor.

I have really enjoyed my first year at FunTech, beginning the A-Level course. I have found it challenging which I believe is important because it has helped me to become more independent and think, "outside of the box," in order to complete programming and theory tasks. I quite like the homework system because it is very organised but also very friendly interface on which I can easily ask for any help or resubmit parts to ensure I reach a very good benchmark of 90% or even higher. I believe the class notes are very helpful, especially for revision however I believe more mini-assesments, perhaps half term ones would help with tracking progress and increasing motivation to revise. Furthermore having short quizzes or surprise quizzes especially on topics completed at teh very start that may have been forgotten would help with retention. Finally my Tutor Jake has been very helpful with guiding and teaching, especially with the practical aspects. One improvement on this would be in the first two terms when theres quite a lot of programming we go through in lessons, having a shared file of the programmes we look at or attempt in class with model answers from the practise questions would really help with revision and learning. Thank you for this year !

I had fun(tech). i loved learning how to crack password hashes and getting usernames without entering the virtual machine (computer). it was my favourite course yet. if i could i would rate it 15/10

My experience at this camp was amazing! I can see why it is called FUNtech. I really enjoyed using our ip addresses to message ourselves from different servers and learning the features of cowsay. My favourite part was when we were able to hack passwords using only hashes. I would definitely recommend funtech to anyone and I will certainly be back for another course next summer!

all of it was great but friday was much worse than i hoped but it was still amazing

My room was so nice and the staff were lovely. More gluten free options though, my sister didn't have a lot to eat. The course was fun and the tutors were really helpful, I learnt a lot. Just my class were a bit loud so I could not concentrate as much but that wasn't their fault. Overall really fun.

Throughout, the week I had an overall positive. i enjoyed pretty much every meal during the duration of my stay and had fun socialising, coding and playing games. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about python because I learnt a lot and had a fun doing it.

Python OOP2

I've learnt so much over the past week which I'm sure will help me with my computer science GCSE and beyond! The tutors were really enthusiastic and helpful, not only during lessons but also at break and lunchtimes where we played fun group games. thank you! :D

Max was always helpful when I needed help and always explained everything clearly and helped me learn lots of new things. All of the teachers were all accommodating and made me laugh lots of times. All the teachers made it very fun to learn and were great.

Python OOP was very fun, are teacher Max was very nice and humorous and helpful. I highly enjoyed the week, the other teacher Hamza and the Leader Midé, were also very funny and I enjoyed playing card games with them like cheat throughout the week.

The camp is very interesting.

This course has taught me so much about cyber security and I can definitely take this further if I want to, which I really do. The day is well structured and the material taught is very thorough and informational. There is lots f information to absorb but my teacher gave me a cheat sheet to take with all the commands on, this really helped. The only improvement I have is to increase the number of tutors on a course. I only had one and this was a problem at times when everybody needed help on different things. I would highly recommend Funtech and this course to anyone. This was not my last time here, for sure!

My Amazing FunTech Week

Very Fun (Tech) haha, I got to learn so much including scripting, Contraints and many more. I really enjoyed developing my own game and hopefully i can do it again in the future

It was very fun.

I loved the last day I was extremely challenged and it was great. The residential building was great as it has USB port and a game room. The course was fun and informative.

PythonOOP

The Python OOP is a fast-paced course but also a well explained course. It propels your knowledge of python in one week and the constant screen breaks help reduce eye strain but also to just have a bit of socialising.

I really enjoyed it and now I can play a fully functional game

Throughout the week you have helped me learn a different variety of techniques, that helped build up to a fully-functional game. Thank You FunTech!

I especially enjoyed the final day where we made our own projects and put everything we had learnt together.
However, the only thing I was unsure about was the maths as it was a bit full on, so I would structure it by having the maths spread out more and the more interesting things spread out.
But other than that, it was great!
